The cure for cancer has not only been found, but made easy in this video narrated by Mr. Anderson. “HEALING CANCER” is a documentary loaded with current and valid scientific evidence, quotes from various researchers, and interviews with the Americans who have cured themselves. Most of these people felt like victims and had one or more of the following concerns:

•	Frustrated and angry at doctors and hospitals for deliberate deception in the use of drugs, chemotherapy, radiation and surgery as the “cure” for cancer.

•	Sick of being told there is no alternative!

•	Tired of having the wool pulled over their eyes on the lies doctors and the advertising media have delivered.

•	Upset and stressed out over the spiraling costs of their health insurance (over $12,000 per year) which gives them no lasting cure!

•	Worried about how they are going to live or retire with enough strength and money!

Now these same people are calling health insurance “sickness insurance” and some actually have become grateful for the cancer, as it woke them up to the realities of the power of food! Personally, I’m thankful someone has stepped up to the plate to show these people how to take back the responsibility they have delegated to medical doctors. As for myself, I have personally done my research and have practically applied a plant-based diet since 1977. I also studied various scientific reports and assorted testimonials, and after careful review of the “HEALING CANCER” video by Mr. Anderson, am convinced and thereby can emphatically state that beyond a doubt, if one changes one’s lifestyle towards a natural whole foods, plant-based diet and exercises a bit, one will dramatically reduce one’s risk of cancer and heart disease.

Our moment to moment judgment on the food we eat and do not eat is crucial to our health and happiness. The cause of cancer is our ignorance of the universal order in nature. There are detrimental effects of our improper thinking, eating and lifestyle. The cure for cancer is our education and training in and practical application of the healing and beneficial effects of wholesome plant foods provided by Nature/God/Infinity!

Along with this recent video documentary, there are countless books that point to a plant-based diet as the best approach to preventing and even reversing Cancer. Some of the best ones are:

Aspartame is an artificial sweetener found in most diet, sugar-free and diabetic products that would normally contain sugar. Beverages, baked goods, ice cream, gelatins, candy, syrups, jams and jellies are some of the foods that commonly contain aspartame. While the sweetener was long touted as a wonderful substitute, allowing diabetics to enjoy sugar-free sweets. The side effects are now known, though, and they can be quite debilitating.

In 1965, a chemist was working on an anti-ulcer drug. He licked his finger after accidentally contaminating it with the drug and found it to be very sweet. This was the birth of aspartame. Preliminary tests caused brain tumors in rats so it was not approved by the FDA for many years. By 1983, it was approved for many foods and by 1996, all restrictions had been lifted in the US.

The only warning aspartame carries is for those born with phenylketonuria (also known as PKU.) One ingredient of aspartame, phenylalanine, is dangerous for those with PKU and can cause mental retardation. More recently, though, other health risks have been associated with aspartame consumption, though the FDA has not yet taken any action towards restricting it.

Aspartame is commonly marketed under the name NutraSweet, Equal and Canderel. Saccharin and sucralose, the main ingredients in other artificial sweeteners, do not pose the exact same risks as aspartame, though they do each come with their own set of potential side effects.

Side Effects

In 1995 it was reported, by the FDA, that aspartame accounted for three quarters of all adverse reactions to food substance reports from 1981 to 1995. Among the nearly 100 reported symptoms reported, the mild ones include:

Feeling flush in the face
Itching
Other allergy-like side effects
Burning eyes and throat
Excessive thirst or hunger
Inability to concentrate
Numbness or tingling of extremities
Bloating
Weight gain

More serious symptoms include:

Asthmatic reactions
Impotency and sexual problems
Anxiety and panic attacks
Menstrual problems or changes
Higher susceptibility to infections
Muscle spasms
Phobias
Noticeable personality changes
Nausea or vomiting
Diarrhea
Depression
Chronic fatigue
Hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia
Migraines
Hair thinning or loss
Hearing and vision loss
Hypertension
Chest pains and heart palpitations
Seizures, convulsions and tremors
Death

Aspartame has also been linked to lymphoma and brain cancer in a few cases.

Research

Aspartame research is as controversial as the reported side effects are. Scientists conducting human studies often choose capsules, which are slow releasing, rather than a common form of ingestion, like sugar-free beverages. Because the absorption is much slower with the capsules, the results of the tests aren’t necessarily reliable.

What Makes Aspartame Dangerous

When you consume aspartame, about 10% of it is broken down into methanol in the small intestine. Methanol is transformed into formaldehyde, a potentially lethal substance that is known to cause rapid, shallow breathing, hypothermia, and can cause comas.

A 1998 study in Spain found that formaldehyde produced by methanol breakdown from aspartame consumption collected in the brain, liver and kidneys in lab animals. Some scientists, however, claim there is not enough methanol produced to cause toxicity.

Many users of aspartame treat it like a blank check to eat all the sweets and sugary foods they desire. Because most foods that contain aspartame are either free of nutrients and/or filled with empty calories, like processed flour, it likely contributes to being overweight or obese. While refined sugar consumption also contributes to obesity, when used in moderation it usually carries few other long term effects.

With over a 100 types of cancers able to affect any part of the body, about 13% of all deaths worldwide were caused by the disease in 2004. Generally treated by surgery, radiation therapy and cancer drugs such as antineoplastic agents, a third of all cancers could be cured if they are detected early and treated well. And with about a one-third of all cancer cases being preventable, there’s a realization to stress more on this cost-effective way of tackling cancer.

Some foods, such as fruits and vegetable are thought to aid prevention of cancer. And many studies have found such links as follows.

Vegetables, Fruits and Prostate Cancer

A review published in the “Molecular Nutrition and Food Research,” Feb 2009 issue supports the claim that an intake of a high vegetable diet can reduce the risk of prostate cancer. The protective mechanism is believed to be include antioxidants that shield the DNA and healthy cell against damage.

In a related study published in the “International Journal of Cancer, March 2004,” those who consumed most fiber particularly from vegetable sources ran a moderately lower risk of being affected by the disease.

Vegetables, Fruits and Colon Cancer

An analysis published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, 2007, suggested that while consumption of fruits and vegetables isn’t strongly associated with the overall colon cancer risk, there’s a possibility of a lower risk at the distal colon or the left-hand side of the colon.

Vegetables, Fruits and Cervical Cancer

An article appearing in the journal “Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention,2002,” showed that women whose diets were high in vegetables cut their rates of long-lasting HPV infections by half. Thus indirectly decreasing the risk of developing cervical cancer.

Vegetables, fruits and Cancer Drugs

A study released by the Pennsylvania State University (PSU), Mar 2009, found that compounds extracted from green vegetables like broccoli and cabbage could be used to make effective cancer drugs against melanoma – a type of a skin cancer. Trials conducted on mice showed that these compounds targeted tumors more safely and effectively than conventional treatments.

While many studies support the role of fruits and vegetables in preventing cancer, many don’t. For instance, no link found between eating fruits and vegetables and a decreased risk for breast cancer (JAMA, Jan 2005), or a high intake of fruit and vegetables isn’t linked to a decreased risk of cancer (Journal of the National Cancer Institute, Nov 2004), and more.

All in all, the link between vegetables, fruits and cancer seems to be and as the American Cancer Society (ACS) suggests, is that eating more vegetables and fruits lowers the risk for some types of cancers.

If you’re looking to control your weight it’s more than likely you’re using some form of artificial sweetener in place of sugar. These substitutes are low in calories and, gram for gram, much sweeter than sugar so it takes a much smaller quantity to create the same sweetness. This means they’re actually negligible in calories.

The sweeteners commonly used, both sold as table sugar substitutes and found in a range of “sugar-free” processed foods, are saccharin (Sweet ‘N Low), aspartame (Nutrasweet), sucralose (Splenda), neotame, acesulfame potassium and stevia.

But do these sugar substitutes really aid weight loss? And what are the long term health implications of using them? These are debates that have been raging for many years. Lets look at both sides.

Some scientists have said that artificial sweeteners do nothing at all for weight loss. They claim that our bodies can’t distinguish between such sweeteners and actual sugar. They suggest that artificial sweeteners behave in a similar way to sugar, activating sensors in the gut which are linked to the absorption of glucose. This means the body processes extra sugar. And that means piling on the pounds.

But commonly, cutting out sugar and using sugar replacements does lead to shedding weight. Anyone who has previously taken 3 spoons of sugar in their coffee but has switched to a sugar replacement will tell you the same. So isn’t this evidence in itself?

The other controversy surrounding artificial sweeteners is that they’ve been linked to cancers, from bladder cancer to brain cancer. However, these findings come mainly from experiments on rats. And we aren’t rats! Our bodies behave very differently. In fact, the studies involving humans have shown that sweeteners don’t have an effect on the occurrence of cancer.

To take one example . . . . Doubts over the safety of aspartame were raised by a report in 1996 in the United States. The report looked at the increase in the number of people with brain tumours between 1975 and 1992. The suggestion was that this increase might be due to the introduction of aspartame in the United States during this period.

But crucially, a deeper look at the statistics showed that the cases of brain cancers actually began to increase in 1973 – eight years before aspartame was approved for consumption in the United States.

In fact, overall, the studies on humans have failed to show a clear link between using artificial sweeteners and cancers of any kind.

So, is the jury out? It seems to me that artificial sweeteners are OK in moderation.

As with anything, it’s probably not a good idea to consume these sugar substitutes to excess. For successful weight loss and overall health we should all be eating more natural, unprocessed foods and reducing our portion sizes so that we’re not eating to the point of being stuffed but are just satisfying our hunger.

The key to consistent, permanent weight loss lies in re-acquainting ourselves with what our bodies really need — learning to listen to our bodies rather than overriding the messages they’re sending us. Once you’re truly in tune with your body you’ll find that the pounds drop off naturally and you’ll even find that no foods are off limits.

Successful weight loss isn’t to do with obsessively watching every single mouthful. It’s to do with addressing the triggers that cause you to overeat. While aids like artificial sweeteners are useful, long term successful weight loss begins in the mind.

[Adapted from http://www.cityslim.com]

Q. Dear CitySlim,

I heard artificial sweeteners are worse for you than cigarettes. I also read somewhere that you actually consume more when using an artificial sweetener because your body does not recognize it as sugar and cannot send the proper signals to your brain that you are full. Also, what are the cancer issues associated with artificial sweeteners? ~DZ, New York, NY

A. Dear DZ,

Thank you for submitting such a well-researched, insightful question. I will address each of your concerns in the order they were asked.

First of all, artificial sweeteners are by no means worse for you than cigarettes. (Cigarettes, when lit, emit over 4000 chemical compounds, many of which are toxic and/or carcinogenic. Forty-three known carcinogens are in cigarette smoke, mainstream and second-hand, such as carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and hydrogen cyanides, just to name a few.[i]) In comparison, artificial sweeteners have not been proven to be carcinogenic to humans. In fact, the use of artificial sweeteners has helped prevent cavities by replacing sugar in foods like gum. They have also helped many diabetics to enjoy foods that would normally have required the addition of sugar, which for them, is a forbidden item.

Before I go on, let me just pause here to define what, exactly, artificial sweeteners are. Artificial sweeteners, also called sugar substitutes, are “substances that used instead of sucrose (table sugar) to sweeten foods and beverages.”[ii] Artificial sweeteners are many times sweeter than sugar (Splenda®, or sucralose, is 600 times sweeter!) and so smaller amounts are needed to create the same level of sweetness. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulates artificial sweeteners.

In response to your second concern, there has been speculation that people may be consuming more of foods that use artificial sweeteners as opposed to sugar. A study published in February 2008 from Purdue University fed laboratory rats two different kinds of yogurts: one group with regularly sweetened yogurt, the other sweetened with the zero-calorie sweetener, saccharin. Interestingly, the rats that ate the saccharin gained more weight and consumed more total calories than rats fed regular feed.[iii] However, no evidence exists to indicate that this is the case in humans, whose digestive systems are much more complicated. On the contrary, “many human studies suggest low-calorie sweeteners in diet sodas and other foods are beneficial for weight loss,” according to registered dietician Beth Hubrich of the Calorie Control Council, a spokeswoman for the low-calorie sweetener industry.[iv] “One of the most recent studies suggested that use of sucralose — the sugar substitute sold as Splenda® — along with increased physical activity, helped children lose weight, she says.” Either way, be sure to monitor your portions and make sure you do not over-eat, especially when using artificial sweeteners.

Finally, I will address the alleged connection between artificial sweeteners and cancer. Concerns regarding artificial sweeteners and cancer began when studies during the 1970’s linked saccharin, the key ingredient in “Sweet ‘N Low” with the development of bladder cancer in laboratory rats. Twenty years prior, in 1958, Congressman Delaney’s wife died of cancer, inspiring him to pass the “zero tolerance, zero risk principle” of the Delaney Clause.[v] This new law mandated that “no additive shall be deemed to be safe if it is found to induce cancer when ingested by man or animal, or if it is found, after tests which are appropriate for the evaluation of the safety of food additives, to induce cancer in man or animal. In response to the study results of lab rats and bladder cancer, the FDA declared “all food containing saccharin bear the following warning label: ‘Use of this product may be hazardous to your health. This product contains saccharin, which has been determined to cause cancer in laboratory animals.’” However, “mechanistic studies (studies that examine how a substance works in the body) have shown that these results apply only to rats” and human epidemiology studies (studies of patterns, causes, and control of diseases in groups of people) have shown no consistent evidence that saccharin is associated with bladder cancer incidence.”[vi] After fourteen years, in 1991, the FDA formally withdrew its 1977 proposal to ban the use of saccharin, and in 2000, the U.S. Congress repealed the law requiring saccharin products to carry health warning labels.[vii]More information about the delisting of saccharin is available at http://ntp.niehs.nih.gov/ntp/roc/eleventh/append/appb.pdf on the Internet.

Aside from saccharine, aspartame, the main ingredient of Nutrasweet® and Equal®, was approved in 1981 by the FDA after numerous tests showed that it did not cause cancer or other adverse effects in laboratory animals.[viii] The FDA currently supports the same position regarding the safety of aspartame; however, because of its phenylalanine component, aspartame does carry a risk for people with the rare genetic disorder phenylketonuria.[ix] People who have this disorder should avoid or restrict aspartame use due to their body’s difficulty in metabolizing phenylalanine.

Last, but not least, sucralose (also known as Splenda®®) was approved by the FDA as a tabletop sweetener in 1998, followed by approval as a general purpose sweetener in 1999.[x] “The FDA reviewed studies in human beings and animals and determined that sucralose did not pose carcinogenic, reproductive, or neurological risk to human beings. However, sucralose contains chlorine, a suspected carcinogen used in “poisonous gas, disinfectants, pesticides, andplastics. The majority of studies were done on animals for short lengths of time. The alleged symptoms associated with sucralose are gastrointestinal problems (bloating, gas, diarrhea, nausea), skin irritations, wheezing, cough, runny nose, chest pains, palpitations, anxiety, anger, moods swings, depression, and itchy eyes.” The only way to be sure of the safety of sucralose is to conduct more long-term studies on humans.

Be wary of Splenda®, especially those of you with diabetes. Although links to cancer are uncertain, sucralose contains both calories and carbohydrates. One cup of Splenda® has 96 calories and 32 grams of carbs, despite the label claiming that is a “no calorie sweetener.”[xi] The Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI) for sucralose was set at “5 mg/kg of body weight/day. To determine your ADI, divide your weight in pound by 2.2 and then multiply it by 50. For example, if you weighted 200 lbs., your weight in kg would be 91 (200 divided by 2.2) and your ADI for sucralose would be 455 mg (91 x 5).”[xii]

Overall, the link between artificial sweeteners and cancer in humans has yet to be proven. Rats in the Purdue study seemed to lack satiety when fed artificial sweeteners versus regular food, but the digestive mechanisms between rodents and humans vary substantially. Zero-calorie (and reduced calorie) sweeteners may or may not have a similar effect in humans, so it is important to monitor and control your intake of foods with sugar substitutes. While smoking will invariably compromise your health, the consumption of artificial sweeteners has not been proven to cause any chronic adverse effects in humans.

Colorectal cancer, also known as bowel cancer, is becoming an all to common form of cancer both in the United States and throughout the world.According to World Health Organization (WHO) numbers, this form of cancer accounts for 655,000 deaths worldwide each year – the third most common form of cancer and the second leading cause of cancer-related death in the Western world.

A report issued by UK based World Center Research Fund last year suggested a link between red meat and cancer, and that eating processed meats like bacon or sausage every day ups your risk of bowel cancer by 63%.

Processed meat was one of the bad guys of the report, but others included diet and lifestyle choices (smoking and alcohol consumption to name a few) that could increase the risk of this type of cancer. The report also included evidence that tied extra weight to six different types of cancer.

Titled Food, Nutrition, Physical Activity and the Prevention of Cancer, publicity over the contents generated a firestorm of controversy as some blasted the effort as “scare tactics”.

Experts defend the work; insisting that while factors like heredity and environment can’t be changed… some risk factors are within our power to control.

And so it seems, many of us may be doing just that.

In a recent online survey of 2,124 respondents, nearly a quarter claimed to have made changes, like eating more fruits and veggies, based on the media coverage of the report.

One in ten has tried to cut down on processed meats like bacon, and of those over 55 years old, 37% reported making changes that included eliminating processed meats from the diet.

Almost 18% of survey respondents were actively watching their weight based on concerns over cancer.

Other results of the survey found that two in five people were trying to be more active – working toward getting 30 minutes of exercise every day.

The good news, according to Richard Evans, head of communications for the World Cancer Research Fund, “This survey shows that if people are told how they can reduce their risk of cancer then many of them will make changes.”

Experts continue to believe that a diet high in animal fat and protein, and also low in fiber, can up the risk of developing cancer of the bowel.

Those who drink heavily (more than 2 alcoholic drinks per day for men; one drink a day for women) are likely also at increased risk of bowel cancer. Almost 9% of those surveyed were working to cut down on alcohol based on these types of health messages.

Of course smoking or chewing tobacco also increases your bowel cancer risk.

The report recommendations for both physical activity and weight management that can help reduce your risk (not just to consider the link between red meat and cencer). You need to keep your weight under control. This isn’t to say underweight, but aim for a Body Mass Index (BMI) between 18.5 and 25 to be considered in the healthy weight range.

As BMI moves over the 25 mark, your risk begins to increase. Also, be sure that you lead an active lifestyle, as there is strong, reliable evidence that this too can offer protective benefits to the body.

Next just head on over to the Daily Health Bulletin for more health tips on managing cancer risk including information on meat and cancer. Plus get 5 free revealing health reports.

A cancer cure diet does exist. At least it does for many sufferers of this terrible scourge.

It’s often goes by the name of “raw food diet,” or “living food diet.” And it works wonders among many who apply the growing body of evidence that a diet consisting of all (or mostly raw foods) can help the body heal itself.

The medical community as a whole still rejects this idea. I’ve become convinced this rejection has to with reasons such as professional pride, business/profit ties to industries such as the pharmaceutical market, and a “cultural consensus” embedded within the medical community itself.

For example, most doctors immediately prescribe drugs when treating chronic disease. Such treatment is firmly established as protocol within the medical community, not because it’s effective, but because this how the practice of medicine has evolved.

For most physicians, prescribing drugs to fight illnesses, including cancer and chronic diseases, is as natural as the air they breathe. This is an incredibly difficult mindset to question or challenge, especially for the sick person who is currently battling illness, hasn’t gone to medical school, and is largely unknowledgeable about alternative health approaches.

More individuals are discovering, however, the nutritional approach for defeating disease. Does this mean patients should always shun medical doctors? Of course not. Does the nutritional path “always” work? No, of course not. But nutrition is often a far better route to health than simply filling one’s body with toxic drugs in order to simply mask any symptoms of illness … or kill healthy cells, right along with unwanted cancer cells.

So what does a cancer cure diet look like?

Cancer is a disease that is very much associated with pH level in the body. The less “alkaline” the pH level is the more likely cancerous cell mutations will thrive. But the more a body attains an alkaline pH level, the less likely cancerous cells can survive.

The notion a certain diet can affect alkalinity in the body is dismissed by many doctors. One even went so far as to write an article about this concept on the “Quackwatch” website: “You should not believe that it matters whether foods are acidic or alkaline, because no foods change the acidity of anything in your body except your urine. Your stomach is so acidic that no food can change its acidity. … Dietary modification cannot change the acidity of any part of your body except your urine.” – 1

But one research scientist countered on his website with the following response, “I would suggest [name of doctor] refer to the following books: 1) Understanding Acid-Base, by Benjamin Abelow, M.D., lecturer in Medicine at Yale School of Medicine, and 2) Clinical Physiology of Acid-Base and…, by Burton David Rose, MD, Clinical Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, and Theodore W. Post, MD, Deputy editor, Nephrology. It is apparent that [name of doctor] doesn’t have an understanding of endogenous acid production, which includes, gastrointestinal acid production, respiratory acid production, cellular degeneration acid production and finally metabolic acid production. His statement that, “you should not believe that it matters whether foods are acidic or alkaline, because no foods change the acidity of anything in your body except your urine,” is a statement of pure ignorance on the subject!” – 2

In my own reading I’ve discovered many of the natural substances in plant foods (along with their nutritional benefits to the human body) haven’t really been discovered yet. This fact, combined with the reality that human physiology is incredibly complex, means there are a great many things physicians and clinical researches do not yet know about the benefits of eating a mostly raw, plant-based diet. So while the massive amounts of clinical data skeptical doctors keep demanding may not yet exist, they should at least admit that time and experience may yet turn the tables of opinion.

The benefits of a plant-based diet in relation to bodily self-healing are hinted at in the experiences of tens (or even hundreds) of thousands all around the world. After switching to a mostly raw, plant-based diet their diseases simply went away. For most of these individuals, it didn’t happen right away. But it did happen.

A diet rich in mostly raw vegetables, fruits, nuts and freshly made vegetable juices and green smoothies can bring about pH changes within a body’s tissues and bones. This would be one reason why those who turn to such a diet often see cancer disappear.

“We are what we eat” and “We dig our graves with our knives and forks” are two statements we might not want to hear but they are nevertheless very true. Our food choices or what we eat on a daily bases is of paramount importance when it comes to our health. Food is medicine, we take when we are well; in order to stay well as it builds up our immunity to all diseases through our immune system.

100 years ago cancer was a rare disease; today it has become a major problem in the industrialized world. Ask yourself these 2 questions; what did we eat back then and what do we eat nowadays? You will agree our food has changed dramatically over the last few decades and our choices now are often made from advertisements because we are influenced by them.

Unfortunately there has been very little research into foods that fight cancer and the reason why is because our food is a natural product and no one can patent it to profit from it. That is why all our medicine is artificial, and because it’s artificial, it can be patented and the price controlled. It is well recognised today that there are many foods that cause cancer and there are many foods that can fight cancer. Identifying them is the key to help solve the problem. Many of the cancer fighting foods that have been identified are found to contain phytochemicals. There are literally hundreds of phytochemicals, only a sprinkling of which have been studied. These phytochemical compounds are molecules that allow plants to defend themselves against infection and also damage caused by insects. This protective role of these different phytochemicals is not restricted to their effects just on plants. They also play a very important part in the behaviour of our own defence systems in fighting cancer. Phytochemicals have a powerful anti-cancer activity that targets the processes involved in the development of tumour growths.

So to the foods have the ability to fight cancer?

* All cruciferous vegetables and they are cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower and Brussels sprouts.

* Members of the allium family and they are garlic, onions shallots and chives.

* The spice turmeric which is responsible for the yellow colour in curry powder.

* Green tea but not black tea.

* All berries, especially blueberries.

* Citrus fruits such as lemons, oranges, grapefruit and mandarins.

* Grapes which contain resveratrol, it’s also in red wine.

* Omega 3 fats which are in off shore fish like tuna, sardines, mackerel, salmon, and also in flax seed, soy products and nuts.

* Tomatoes, which have been described as “the prostates best friend.”

* Chocolate, but only dark chocolate and in small quantity.

While it is important to maintain a healthy diet, it is just important to eliminate the foods that are known to contribute to cancer.

They are.

* Marinated foods.

* Smoked foods.

* Pressed meats, as they contain the food additives sodium nitrate and sodium nitrite.

* Fried foods.

* Processed foods.

* Red meat, in excess.

* Alcohol, in excess.

It is frequently incorrect to believe that we are smarter than nature and that we can take a food item and make it better. No matter what is says on the container that the food is in, we can not. We can not improve on nature.

John Wayne called it “The Big C”. More than 25 years after the famed actor’s death, however, research has pointed the way toward cancer prevention through consuming a cancer diet, rich with foods to fight cancer. There are ten super foods to fight cancer that should be included in every cancer diet:

(1) Garlic – one of the best foods to boost the body’s immune system. Garlic has been revered for ages for its healing properties, but recent studies have proven that garlic consumption, along with its cousins onions, leeks and chives, also helps reduce the risk of stomach and colon cancers.

(2) Broccoli – not one of former President Bush’s favorites, but who can argue about the powers of its chemical ingredient indol-3-carbinol, a proven breast cancer fighter.

(3) Red Grapes – rich in bioflavinoids and resveratrol, both proven to be able to suppress the enzymes that encourage cancer cell growth.

(4) Tomatoes – contain the antioxidant lycopene proven to help prevent prostate and colon cancers, so make sure the men in your life consume plenty of tomato-based products.

(5) Mushrooms -Shiitake and reishi varieties help to build the body’s immune system and fight cancer cells.

(6) Sweet Potatoes – the beta-carotene contained in this potato variety shields the body’s cells from cancer invasion.

(7) Blueberries – the most powerful berry variety for antioxidants.

(8) Papayas – this tropical fruit is a Vitamin C powerhouse, a known cancer inhibitor.

As a general rule, good sources of fiber include lots of fruits, vegetables, whole cereals, breads and legumes. Food that is high in fiber usually will have almost 5g of fiber in each serving.

Benefits of High Fiber Diet

Dietary fiber is found only in plants and though we eat them, our body is not able to digest, making them pass through small intestine into colon. A diet high in fiber can help to keep colon healthy. A diet high in fiber can help to treat the disorders like constipation, diverticulitis, and caner.

Mainly, there are two types of fibers, soluble and insoluble. Insoluble fiber is found mainly in the high-fiber foods such as nuts, whole grains, vegetables and wheat bran. As it does not dissolve in water, it helps material move through the colon faster. A diet high in fiber can help people suffering from constipation or irregularity and reduce the risk of developing diabetes.

Soluble fiber is found in high-fiber foods such as apples, oats, citrus fruits, flax seeds, psyllium and beans. Water is absorbed and that helps in softening the stools and making them easier to pass through the body. A diet high in fiber can help reduce cholesterol and maintain it at healthy level.

A diet high in fiber can help reducing risk of colon cancer, though the exact mechanism of this reduction is not known. But a general theory states that fiber adds bulk to the stool, which in turn dilutes carcinogens, speeding their movement out of the body.

As shown by various studies, a diet high in fiber can helps in preventing breast cancer as well. Fiber hampers the growth of breast tumors by binding itself with the estrogen in intestine,s preventing excess estrogen from getting reabsorbed in the bloodstream.

A diet rich in fiber also lowers the level of blood cholesterol, as soluble fiber binds itself to the dietary cholesterol reducing its level in the blood. This in turn reduces the cholesterol deposits on the walls of arteries that choke off the vessels.

Fiber Supplements

There are many supplements available that can be taken along with low-fiber diet, but they should not be used as a replacement for high-fiber foods in your diet. High-fiber foods are rich in other nutrients such as minerals and vitamins as well. Supplements along with a diet high in fiber can help you maintain an overall good health.
