Evodia rutaecarpa is a botanical source of rutaecarpine.
Laboratory and animal research has examined rutaecarpine's effects on enzymes involved in caffeine metabolism. In rat studies, rutaecarpine repeatedly accelerated caffeine clearance, apparently by increasing liver enzymes—especially CYP1A2 and CYP2E1—that metabolize caffeine and its metabolites. The results suggest rutaecarpine was doing more than merely reducing caffeine absorption—it appeared to increase metabolic clearance.
Human evidence is still limited, so Shut Eye and rutaecarpine supplements have not been proven to eliminate caffeine or treat insomnia.
The most reliable first step is caffeine timing. The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute notes that caffeine can interfere with sleep and that its effects may last up to eight hours.
Shut Eye is intended to support a healthy bedtime routine, not replace adequate sleep, good sleep habits, or medical care.

Suggested use: Take 1 to 2 vegan capsules 30 to 60 minutes before bed with water, or as directed by your healthcare professional.
Caution: For adult use only. Consult your physician if you are pregnant, nursing, taking prescription medication, or have a serious medical condition. Avoid driving, operating heavy machinery, consuming alcohol, or participating in high-risk activity while taking Shut Eye.
Because this formula contains melatonin, L-tryptophan, and 5-HTP, discuss it with a healthcare professional if you take medicines that affect serotonin, blood clotting, seizure control, or sedation.
Use the product only as labeled and pair it with the habits that do the most work.
Keep a consistent bedtime and wake time, including weekends whenever possible.
Move caffeine earlier in the day. Animal studies suggest rutaecarpine may accelerate caffeine clearance, but do not rely on a supplement to cancel late caffeine intake.
Dim lights, reduce screens, and keep the bedroom cool, quiet, and dark.
Take 1 to 2 capsules 30 to 60 minutes before bed. Do not exceed the label directions.
Start with two or three habits, practice them consistently, and build from there.
Anchor your body clock with a regular schedule and allow enough time for sleep.
Spend time outside when possible and be physically active during the day.
Reduce light and sound distractions and choose a comfortable temperature.
Avoid bright artificial light and stimulating screen use before bed.
Caffeine can interfere with sleep for hours. Track your own sensitivity and timing.
These can delay sleep or make sleep lighter and more fragmented.
Reading, relaxing music, breathing practice, or a warm bath can help mark the transition to sleep.

The label suggests 1 to 2 capsules with water 30 to 60 minutes before bed, or as directed by your healthcare professional.
Animal studies support the concept, but no finished-product clinical trial establishes that claim. Rutaecarpine has been studied and shown to affect caffeine metabolism in laboratory and animal models, but human evidence is limited. The best-supported approach is to limit caffeine late in the day.
The label describes adult bedtime use, but long-term melatonin safety has not been established. Ask a healthcare professional about regular use, especially if you take medicines or have a medical condition.
Do not combine it with alcohol. Ask a doctor or pharmacist before combining it with sedatives, other sleep products, melatonin, 5-HTP, or L-tryptophan.
Talk with a healthcare professional if sleep problems occur most nights, persist for more than two weeks, impair daytime functioning, or include loud snoring, gasping, or pauses in breathing.
